To the snow!

Jim Geiger at a ski resort on the North Island in New Zealand

Today I was almost an old pro at getting my rental car around the North Island. I was still a little nervous making a right turn, but I got er done without incident.

Breakfast at the Chateau was another spectacular spread. So far, the “room with breakfast” has been an excellent choice. After breakfast, I took a shuttle bus to the top of the park where several hundred people were already enjoying the snow. Most were skiing, but many were also enjoying each other in the warmth of the ski lodge. I would have driven up myself but was stopped by a guard because I was in a 2WD without chains.

Then it was back on the road to my next destination, Regent of Rotorua. The area is known for geothermal activity. Again, the countryside scenery was spectacularly beautiful despite the intermittent overcast and spotty rain. It added to the experience. I soaked in their spa for about a half-hour and then enjoyed dinner of scallops and filet. Tomorrow it is a zipline through the forest. Can’t wait to share.
